Secondary Research

Gather information on the challenges of collaboration within EPD teams in software companies.

This research should include reviewing case studies, academic papers, and industry reports to understand common pain points and successful strategies, helping us identify key areas for deeper investigation during our primary research phase.

Primary Interviews

Conduct interviews with 9 senior-level EPD members.

These interviews should focus on understanding their firsthand experiences, challenges, and insights regarding communication, collaboration, and team dynamics, ensuring that we capture a comprehensive view of the issues across all functions.

Social Dynamics

Analyze the common barriers that EPD teams face when working together.

Synthesize this analysis to identify the primary functions of EPD collaboration, focusing on how social dynamics, power structures, and interpersonal relationships impact team effectiveness and product outcomes.

Preliminary Designs

Explore potential design interventions aimed at addressing key issues identified in the research.

These preliminary designs should be grounded in the insights gathered from secondary research and interviews, with the goal of proposing actionable solutions that can enhance collaboration and improve overall product quality.

What requires more research?
where concerns lie
We used four key themes— Decisions, Priorities, Culture, and Communication—to organize insights and address pain points identified in our research.
what teams desire
We crafted "Golden Questions" to explore participants’ experiences, work history, responsibilities, and personalities based on initial findings and common challenges.
HOW WE Share Struggles
We mapped four problem themes to statements synthesized from participant feedback, identifying common traits aligned with our initial hypothesis. How might we develop a collaborative, accessible framework to help remote EPD squads contribute efficiently, deliver top releases, and grow relationships?
What did I learn?
Know your team

Taking time to know team members is beneficial especially new ones, should connect socially before diving into tasks.

Alignment is Important

Getting everyone on the same page is a significant challenge. Ensuring alignment can greatly enhance team effectiveness.

Tasks take time

Redistributing minor tasks to focus on strategic goals can benefit all employees by freeing up time for more impactful work.

SOLUTIONS the team EXPLORED

Through a series of short ideation sprints, our team prototyped two AI-powered solutions: Cheetah, an AI assistant handling routine tasks, freeing time for strategic work. Squad Tools, a suite of Figma templates and widgets aimed to foster communication and collaboration in remote teams, ensuring alignment and building strong team culture.
